My recent post about wide and extra wide width sneakers was by far the most widely discussed post I’ve ever written.  I’ve since had countless conversations with many of you discussing the challenges we all seem to face in finding the perfect shoe.  The STRUGGLE is real, y’all!

I’ve always had a tough time finding cute and comfortable shoes due to my wide feet and occasional swelling, but I didn’t realize so many of you were struggling too.  Because of this, I have decided to write a series of posts about different types of shoes and where to find great options.

If you’re here, there’s a good chance you’re pretty interested in plus size fashion… and if you’re like me, sometimes your closet can start to overflow with your purchases.  I’ve always been a frugal shopper and find a lot of great deals on clothing.  Because of that, I’ve always had a large wardrobe that can get messy.

A few years ago, when I was living in New York in a one bedroom apartment with tiny closets, I decided I was no longer going to allow my clothing to overtake my home and cause so much stress for me.

Since then, through a crazy series of events, I have since become a Poshmark Ambassador and have made thousands of dollars selling pre-owned plus size clothing and accessories on the app.

In today’s post, I’m going to give you my tips to getting started with Poshmark.  You can easily make money selling fashionable, name brand clothing and accessories on the app, and it’s as simple as cleaning out your closet and taking a few pictures.

My History With Selling Clothing Online

A few years ago, when I was sick of my clothes overtaking every spare inch of space in my tiny New York apartment, I decided to post a status update on my Facebook page to see if anyone was interested in seeing what I had available.  Within 24 hours, I had sold every single piece of excess clothing I had to friends and acquaintances.  They were thrilled to get great deals on pieces I had curated for myself and I was thrilled to make some extra cash and declutter.  I realized I was onto something, and I decided to jump in and see if I could turn my love of fashion into a business.

I created my first website on the Shopify platform and saw fast success selling my clothing and clothing I bought specifically to resell online.  After nearly a year, I  decided that the hassle of maintaining my own website and costs associated with marketing it wasn’t worth it given the existence of eBay, Facebook selling groups and other platforms.  I decided to cross post items I had for sale on my website to a variety of other platforms to see where things sold the fastest and for the highest profit.

Poshmark won by a landslide.  It was not only the most profitable site due to the higher average sale price but it was also the easiest to use by far.

About Poshmark

Poshmark is an app for buying and selling clothing and accessories.  It’s primarily used by millennial women who are interested in trendy and higher end items. On the app you can find pre-owned and brand new pieces in an easy to shop format.  I recently learned that users have sold over one BILLION dollars on the app…. and it’s only just beginning.

The app is different than sites like eBay because it’s a mix between social media and selling.  For example, on Poshmark you can follow other people with similar taste, share your own listings so they will rank higher in search results ,and share the listings of others to build camaraderie and grow your following.

There are also themed “parties” that allow you to share your items for additional visibility.  There are regularly scheduled plus size parties where only plus size clothing is shared.  The plus size parties are my favorite by far.

Poshmark keeps a flat 20% fee from your earnings because they offer customer service and protections for both buyers and sellers.  They also have a deal with the postal service (USPS) that makes shipping easy with a simple flat rate fee that is paid by buyers.

I definitely recommend trying Poshmark if you’re looking for a way to make extra money.  #SIDEHUSTLE

How to Make Money By cleaning out your closet

How To Get Started On Poshmark

  1. Clean Out Your Closet: Start by pulling pieces from your own wardrobe that are stylish and minimally worn.
  2. Take Photos Of The Items:  Photos for Poshmark must be square.  You can either use your cell phone or a camera and editing software.  Try to find a well lit spot with a clean/crisp background.  Natural lighting is your friend!  You can either use flat lay images or take photos of the clothing hanging or on a dress form.
  3. Download the Poshmark App: (use code MirandaSchultz when you sign up to get $5 off your first purchase from any closet)
  4. Upload Pictures
  5. Enter Item Info:  Descriptions should be keyword heavy including brand name, style, color, etc.  It’s helpful to include measurements and fabric content as well. Be as specific as possible with categories (i.e., choose Crop tops vs. just Tops).  Entering sizing correctly is very important because many users default their searches to specific sizes.  When listing, be sure to click on “Plus” for plus sizes and choose one of the sizes from the list.  If a dress is size 22/24, for example, don’t type in 22/24.  Instead, you should choose either 22, 24, 22W, or 24W from the list.  This ensures your listing will show up in any relevant searches by size and will allow you to share the listing to plus size parties.  Be sure to include any relevant notes about sizing in the description to clarify.  I like to take a picture of the size tag and include it in the listing to be safe as well.

What Do I Need To Get Started?

You don’t need a lot to get started on Poshmark, but a few things are necessary.  Below are my must haves (and a few helpful extras) for launching your Poshmark closet.

  • USPS Boxes – These are free from USPS.  I recommend ordering online and having them shipped directly to your home.  You can use any Priority or Priority Flat Rate box with Poshmark.  If you have these boxes and some packing tape, you’re good to go.  However, nice packaging is highly regarded by Poshmark customers, so I recommend upgrading to Poly Mailers if you can.
  • Poly Mailers (floralwhitepink) – These cute mailers add a little something special for your buyers.  They’re fun to change out seasonally or to add a hint of your personality to your shipments.
  • Thank You Cards – Thank you cards are a great way to let your buyers know you appreciate their business and add a personal touch to your package.  I like to include my social media handles and my closet name so they can find me again in the future.  Repeat buyers are my fave!
  • DYMO  4XL Label Printer – I don’t have a DYMO label printer but I REALLY want one.  For a long time, Poshmark only allowed you to print on 8.5″ x 11″ standard paper but now you can print actual shipping labels on a Dymo.  If I were a higher volume seller, I’d definitely invest in this to save time.  For now, I just print my labels on standard paper and tape them to my packages.
  • Postage Scale – One benefit of selling on Poshmark vs. other platforms is that you don’t have to weigh packages.  As long as they’re under five pounds, they ship for a standard fee the buyer pays.  If you’re selling heavy items like coats or bundles of multiple items, be careful!  If they’re over five pounds, you’ll need to pay additional shipping.  I rarely measure packages because almost nothing is over five pounds, but I do have a scale for heavy packages.
  • Measuring Tape –  I try to include measurements on all listings because if I don’t, people will inevitably comment and ask.
  • Plus Size Dress Form – I found mine on eBay, and it is no longer available.  A similar one can be found here.  This is not a necessary purchase in the beginning – flat lays or hanging clothing on a hanger for photos will work perfectly.
  • Shipping Tape

I’ll admit that I was a little overwhelmed by Poshmark when I first started, but once you get the hang of it I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions and also let me know your closet name so I can follow you!  I’d love to see more plus size babes join in!

Happy Poshing, friends!

A plus size woman's leg and wide foot wearing black leggings and grey and white sneakers

Out of all my fashion struggles, I think shoes are by far the most challenging for me.  I have REALLY wide feet and sometimes deal with swelling.  I spend a lot of my time wearing stretchy flats and rarely wear sneakers unless I’m exercising.

The Best Way To Get New Panties – Delivered To Your Door

Sponsored Post:  Thank you to the team at Panty Drop for collaborating with me on this post.  All opinions are my own.  For more site policies and disclosures, click here

Not sure about you, but I LOVE a good subscription service!  I’ve tried them for clothing, jewelry, makeup, groceries, and pretty much anything else I can find.

It is SO exciting to get new goodies delivered to your door – such a special treat!

Just when I thought I’d tried (and loved) every type of subscription service out there, I discovered Panty Drop, a subscription service for panties.  First, how AWESOME is “Panty Drop” as a business name for a panty subscription service? SERIOUSLY! Branding genius.  I knew I wanted in based on the name alone!

Miranda Schultz of The Plus Life Blog opens her front door to find an unmarked package on her doorstep.
We had guests in town the day my first box arrived from Panty Drop. When the doorbell rang, I RAN to the door to make sure no one else saw what I got! LOL. Thankfully, the packaging is very discreet and no one knew what was inside!

A Special Night – A Fundraiser With Draper James

If you follow me on social media (oh, hi!  Instagram, here.  Facebook, here) you likely already know that last night I partnered with the team at Draper James’ Lexington store to host a Shop & Sip event for a charity in my hometown.

I am overjoyed with the way the event turned out and wanted to capture it for you with a quick post here.

People often speak negatively about growing up in a small town, but I have to say…. you really just can’t beat the love and support of a community like the one I came from.

Review: The Plus Size Sports Bra That is Changing The Game!

Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post in partnership with GlamoriseSport.  All opinions are my own.  I only share products I personally use and love.

I’ve got a secret…..

For years, I’ve been a double bra wearer.  That’s right…. when I exercise, I wear a sports bra with a regular underwire bra underneath.

I’m not particularly busty, but I still prefer additional support that most sports bras just don’t provide.  Regular sports bras typically either smash my “girls” flat or don’t provide enough support to control the bounce when I work out.

I’ve always HATED that when I use my “double bra method” you can see both sets of straps under tank tops.  I’ve also hated getting my favorite bras sweaty and gross requiring me to wash them after each wear, causing them to wear out quickly.

My Favorite Pieces from Eloquii’s New Draper James Collaboration Launch

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw me FREAK OUT when Eloquii announced its collaboration with Draper James, Reese Witherspoon’s brand.

I literally shed tears of joy when it launched because I’ve never had access to southern inspired clothing I love in my size.

You can see a some of my previous Draper James For Eloquii looks HERE and HERE, but today’s post is all about the pieces I’m excited to try from the second launch of the collaboration which just dropped TODAY!

5 Ways To Style A Classic Tee

I’ll admit it… I’ve never really been a jeans and tee shirt kind of girl.  I’ve always enjoyed dresses and skirts and being a little bit “extra” in my everyday life.

As I’ve gotten older (hello, early 30’s!), I’ve started to embrace a slightly more casual aesthetic.  I think this has a lot to do with being more comfortable and confident in my own skin and not feeling the need to “dress to impress” all the time.  I also value comfort more than ever.

Blazer:  Here | Tee:  Here | Jeans:  Here (RWN by Rawan via Gwynnie Bee)

Regardless of whether I’m wearing a fancy dress or a comfy tee, I want to look put together and more importantly FEEL good in what I’m wearing.  That’s why when Universal Standard reached out to me about trying a couple items from their line, I KNEW I had to go for some of their popular “elevated” basics.

What I love about Universal Standard is that they tackle the notion that plus size women won’t invest in quality clothing items head on.  I have been personally guilty of refraining from investing in quality (long lasting) clothing items because of my fluctuating size.  In the past I was always planning or hoping to lose weight, so I didn’t want to accept that I’d be in my current size long enough to NEED clothing to last.

The BEST Maxi Dress of Spring!

This is an alert…. RUN and go buy this dress right now! I’m serious.  It’s selling out fast, so I don’t want you to miss out.  I love this dress so much that I was willing to pay full price for it.  You all probably know by now that I am VERY frugal.  Paying full price for clothing causes such sorrow for me, and I rarely ever do it.  I loved this so much I bought it in BOTH colors the very first time I saw it because I just couldn’t risk it and wait for a deal.
