Winter coats and jackets can be one of the most difficult things to find for plus size women, and I’m no exception. I spent YEARS wearing inadequate coats that either didn’t fit well or weren’t warm enough in the coldest winter months.
When I moved to New York and spent a LOT more time outside during one winter working in Manhattan, I knew I had to figure out the coat situation… and I really started diving in and researching exactly what I needed to round out my winter wardrobe.
Now, living back in Kentucky and working from home instead of traipsing around NYC every day, I don’t require as much long-term cold weather protection, but it’s still important to have a variety of coats for different temperatures and occasions.
Today’s post features my absolute favorite coat styles that I wear on a daily basis when the temperatures drop. I think these styles will work great for any plus size person looking to stay warm and look cute this winter.
Best Plus Size Jackets & Coats for Winter
This is a round-up of the ACTUAL jackets and coats I own and wear on a daily basis. I have a few other coats in my closet that rarely get worn… but these are the go-to options that I think EVERYONE could use for a versatile cold-weather wardrobe.

Long Puffer Coat by Ellos
This long puffer coat is available in several sizes. I own it in black. This is by far the warmest coat I’ve ever worn. I don’t normally go for long coats like this because they can feel restrictive, but I LOVE the zipper detail on the sides that allow you to unzip to have an additional range of motion when needed.
I bought this coat when I lived in New York and faced some BRUTAL winters. It has worn and washed well and I expect it to last for years to come.

Teddy Faux Fur Coat by Ellos
I don’t own this exact coat, but I did have a very similar one until I *LOST* it recently. I actually know the exact day I lost it (when we were car shopping for Kevin) but I was never able to backtrack and find it. This option is VERY similar to the one I had before, and I’ll likely repurchase soon!

Caramel Premium Ponte Coat by Torrid
This coat is the newest addition to my collection. I felt like I was missing a warm coat that was on the dressier side. I also missed having a non-black neutral option. This caramel color is gorgeous and mixes and matches with any wardrobe.
I often struggle with arm fit in wool coats similar to this style. I loved that this coat is a nice, thick ponte knit instead of wool although it does have that “wool look”.
Additionally, if you’re pregnant or need extra space in the stomach area… this is a great winter option for you. I liked that it only had one button so that my twin belly has room to grow over the next few months.

Tan Asymmetrical A-Line Coat By Torrid
This coat is the other Torrid option I was considering adding to my collection this year. Ultimately, I went with the ponte option above due to the extra space in the stomach area but I REALLY loved this one too and struggled to leave it behind.

Faux Leather Moto Jacket by Lane Bryant
I actually own two leather moto jackets from Lane Bryant and both are several years old. I’ve had my more recent LB moto for 2-3 years, and it very closely resembles this updated style available online currently.
My other LB moto?! It’s actually from HIGH SCHOOL! I think it’s officially the oldest piece of clothing I own at this point… it won’t be long until it’s considered vintage! Haha.

Quilted Jackets by Avenue
I recently wore a burgundy quilted jacket that I’ve owned for several years on Instagram stories and had MANY of you reach out asking about it. Like many of the coats I’ve mentioned, I’ve owned my quilted jacket for several years but Avenue still has a couple of VERY similar styles available. I own quilted jackets in both black and burgundy, and Avenue currently offers several color options.
Option 1 available in sizes 14-32 on Avenue.com in navy, black and red.
Option 2 available in sizes 14-32 on Avenue.com in black, burgundy, and green.
Medium Wash Denim Jacket by Lane Bryant
I know a denim jacket isn’t exactly a cold-weather essential for winter, but I do get a TON of use out of mine during the fall, the spring and even on some unseasonably warm days in the winter. A denim jacket is the perfect layering piece.
