Best Wide and Extra Wide Shoes and Boots for Winter

Some of the most popular content on my blog since I first launched has always been that featuring wide and extra wide width shoes for women.  I can completely understand why… for YEARS I struggled big-time in this area and although I was able to find cute plus size clothes that fit my style… shoes were a completely different story.

Thankfully, in recent years more and more wide and extra wide width shoe options have become available to us, and I’ve spent a LOT Of time and energy figuring out which ones are worth our time and which ones aren’t.

In today’s post, I’m rounding up all of my favorite wide and extra wide width flats, sneakers, booties, and boots that’ll be perfect for cold weather.

Wide Calf Boots

For YEARS, I’ve asked around and read countless blog posts about where to find wide-calf and extra wide-calf boots and even most plus-size folks recommend options that still aren’t quite wide enough for me.

The biggest size range I’ve found for wide-calf booties is at Simply Be.  They offer boots in sizes 6-11 and offer FIVE different calf widths and FOUR different foot widths.

The “Extra Curvy Plus” calf width is the widest option and goes up to 23.5″.

I love this style, personally, but I highly recommend you check out the entire line of wide calf boots from the brand, paying special attention to the size chart.  You’ll definitely want to measure your calves to ensure the best fit.

Boots and Booties

Ugg Boots:  I was recently asked by a reader where we can find wide-calf boots similar to Uggs for winter-time… while I don’t know of any other brands, this question reminded me that I need to share that some styles of UGG brand boots work well for those of us with wider feet and calves.  I’ve always had the best luck with these Bailey Button Uggs.  They don’t come up super high on the calf and I’m able to fit into them comfortably (I’m a size 26/28 for reference and the widest part of my calf is 23″ although these don’t come up to the widest part).  The button closure of this particular style is helpful for wider calves because the shoe itself is split allowing extra space.  The button closure has elastic and some stretch for extra give.

Snow Boots:  I haven’t upgraded my winter/snow boots in a LONG time so the exact style I own is no longer available, but this is a great option available in many colors and in sizes 7-12 and in medium, wide and extra-wide widths on  If you’re like me and live somewhere that only gets snow a few times per year, catch a pair of these on sale and you’ll be set for years to come!

Bella Vita Ankle Booties are a go-to when I’m looking to elevate a look.  I love wearing them with leggings, skinny jeans, dresses, and skirts.  They’re super versatile and look great.  I have found Bella Vita to be a great brand and each pair I own has lasted a LONG time.  Given how long I’ve had my Bella Vita booties, the exact style is no longer available but you can find similar ones here.

Sneakers and Flats

Black Slip-On Sneakers are my go-to everyday shoes with leggings or jeans.  I wear these NONSTOP because they’re both comfortable and stylish.  They’re available in sizes 7-12 and in medium, wide and extra-wide widths on

Vivien Flats are my go-to “dressy flats” to wear with slacks and dresses… or even with elevated denim.  These are on the slightly more expensive side at nearly $100 (regular price) but you can often find them on sale.  They’re also real leather and extremely high quality.  I’ve had mine for quite some time and they still look brand new.  They’re available in sizes 6-12 and in medium, wide and extra-wide widths on

The Jamie Sneakers aren’t a pair that I personally own (yet!) but I completely trust this brand and have always had great luck with the fit.  I LOVE the rose gold color of these and they’re a fun way to add something special to your casual looks.  They’re available in sizes 7-12 and in medium, wide and extra-wide widths on
